Claire's Mission to Armenia: MTC Week 5
Dear all,
What a week this has been, So sad that I missed you this morning mumsie, a boy was taking forever on the computer and so I my time was a little later than normal. I have no idea what my P Day will look like for next week, it being Thanksgiving and all, we are hoping that it is just on Wednesday or Friday, but we shall see. Thanks so much for the package mum! It was much needed, the perfume was perfectly intact, and the blankie is fantastic. I am auditioning with that song to sing in one of the big meetings, so I will tell you how that goes, my companion Sister Kellis is playing for me.
Well this week has been another whirlwind. Thursday after TRC I had to orient all of the new elders and sisters in our zone and take them on a tour which is one of my responsibilities as Coordinating sister, I help them feel welcome and in my binder I have dress and grooming standards that I am in charge of maintaining and making sure that everyone else is compliant. So its pretty low key, not enough power to go to my head but just enough to make me feel a little special. Also on thursday we were given new teaching companions, I am with Sister Kellis, I was soo soooooo sad to lose Elder Sarafian but sister Kellis is great and we have been teaching my invesigators, Gago and Hovo and things have been going pretty well. Just thinking back to 5 weeks ago and all of the Armenian that I know in that short time of studying, it truly is a miracle. I am certainly not a rockstar yet, but I think I am on my way. I've got most of the grammar down, learning word after word is my focus right now.
Had a great personal study on Ether chapter 12 this week. I would highly recommend studying it and thinking about what faith leads to. It is amazing, definitely on of my favorite chapters of the Book of Mormon. Also this week we were privileged to have Elder Foster of the 70 speak to us about consecration. He told the story of John Tanner and showed us a little movie about him, I would highly recommend finding it. What an inspiring story, He was such a giving man. As soon as he was baptized in the 1830s, being a very wealthy man, it is estimated that he gave over $50,000 to the church. What amazing devotion. A quote that Elder Foster shared that I just loved was from Neal A. Maxwell, "Consecration is the only surrender that is truly a victory." Isn't that wonderful? To be able to give 18 months of my life to the work of the Lord may seem like a sacrifice, but it is the least I can do for all that the Lord has blessed me with. I feel privileged to give this time of my life to Him.
I thought this week I would tell you a bit about my schedule. On a normal day, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday:
-6:30 arise
-7:00 study in the classroom
-7:30 Breakfast
-8:00 Class
-11:00 Personal Study
-12:15-Lunch
-1:00 Language study
-2:00 Class
-5:15 dinner
-6:00 Gym
-7:30 Language study
-9:00 Daily planning
-9:30 Back home
-10:30 lights out.
All in all an exciting day, yes you read correctly I have 30 minutes to get ready in the morning, I have 6 hours of class and 3 of study. Kind of nuts. But its good to be busy, nice to have things to do and things to focus on. P-Day is a little different with laundry and temple time and nap time, which is oh so lovely. The food here is pretty decent, nothing really to write home about (haha, bad joke) but it keeps me fed and I have not been gaining weight. This week Sister Nelsen and I have started doing P90x workouts (they have them in the fitness center, no movie, but they have pictures with the moves and timers to keep you on track.) my abs feel like they are going to fall off and I can barely sit, but it is so worth it!
Movie night was great this week, I watched the Kirtland Visitors Center movie and when the character said, "Kirtland is my home, Phoebe" I just burst out laughing. haha-that's for you charlottie! Mimi, I am so happy to hear that the BYU app is in! Is it just for Provo or Idaho too? Good luck! I will be praying for you! I found out around February 20th I think... LOVED your pic of the orange boots and new skirt! So cute! Mum asked a few dear elders ago what my favorite outfit was to wear here and I must say it is that skirt that we bought with Sharon Koons-the green plaid one from Goodwill. I love it, has pockets and it looks swell with my boots and a grey sweater, so its lovely. and I wear it about once a week at least.
Well I am loving it here, the snow has fallen but it has warmed up a bit and I am toasty in my boots and cute tights you sent! The christmas lights are going up but not yet on, its going to be so lovely! I love you all so much! The Lord has called me to Armenia and there I will go! So soon too, just 4 weeks from monday! Soph, So excited for you to go tooo!!!! And If anyone knows where any of my other pals are going, please send it along. I LOVE DEARELDERS!! and if you send a package, please send a note in it, the written word is so precious to us here!
